May, 1952. (The “King”) Clark Gable, “The King,” was the essence of masculine sex appeal. The American actor’s popularity remained immense two years after the delayed French release of Gone With the Wind, a release that had been pushed back by the war and the occupation of Paris. Gable’s arrival in France that year was such an event that Paris Match, unable to wait for him to arrive in the capital city, traveled to le Havre to photograph him on the cruise ship Liberty, before he had even come ashore.
