June 1951. It is rare to capture the General de Gaulle with a smile. Then president of the RPF (French People’s Party), de Gaulle poses along the Isle, near Périgueux, where he was holding a political meeting. The Hero of June 18 was counting on winning the legislative vote that was scheduled to be held on the… 17th. A promising symbol for what would become a partial electoral failure. Seven years later, who would have guessed that he would become the first president of the Fifth Republic. The year 2020 will mark the 50th anniversary of his death.
